WiMAX is a wireless OFDM-based broadband technology that represents a qualitative jump with respect to the WiFi technology in terms of data rate, data link security and area coverage.
The key features are the high area coverage (up to 40 Km) simultaneously with the high throughput (up to 70 Mbps), allowing the deployments of metropolitan networks. WiMAX is based on the IEEE standard 802.16, and is defined by the WiMAX Forum, formed by manufacturers and operators.
WiMAX operates between 2 to 11 GHz and manages bandwidths from 1.25 to 28 MHz
