22/10/2007 - AZIMUTH SYSTEMS PARTNERS WITH AT4 WIRELESS TO BRING CHANNEL EMULATION TO MOBILE WIMAX™ TESTING
Malaga, Spain and Acton, MA, USA – October 22, 2007 — Azimuth Systems, Inc., a leading provider of wireless engineering test equipment, today announced that the company has partnered with AT4 wireless, a global supplier of testing solutions for wired and wireless technologies, to add MIMO channel emulation testing for Mobile WiMAX products to the lab’s extensive testing capabilities. WiMAX testing with channel emulation allows thousands of real-world conditions to be tested for RF performance, mobility and interoperability, using statistical modeling to provide broad testing in a lab.
Designed from the ground up as a MIMO test solution, Azimuth’s ACE™ 400WB WiMAX Channel Emulator is purpose-built for testing the key technology differentiators of Mobile WiMAX. Mobility, high throughput and extended range are dependent on the multipath environment for MIMO spatial streaming and advanced antenna techniques, and Azimuth’s bi-directional and reciprocal channel modeling provides this real-world scenario in a lab. This replaces hundreds of hours- or even days- of field testing, where each test provides only a snapshot scenario and lacks repeatability. The result is more thorough evaluation of WiMAX chipsets, clients and infrastructure devices and faster time to market, at a much lower cost.
“We are constantly evaluating new technologies to help make WiMAX testing more effective and more efficient, and we believe that channel emulation will prove to be a critical element in the testing process for both our customers and for WiMAX performance testing efforts,” said Fernando E. Hardasmal, Deputy General Director of AT4 wireless. “Partnering with Azimuth Systems was a natural fit because of the company’s unparalleled expertise in channel emulation testing.”
AT4 wireless is the world’s premier facility for WiMAX testing. Based in Malaga, Spain and now also in Virginia, AT4 wireless has led the certification efforts of the WiMAX Forum® , as the organization’s first worldwide WiMAX Forum Designated Certification Laboratory, and has provided WiMAX conformance, interoperability and performance testing for vendors and service providers for a number of years. Mobile WiMAX and MIMO-based WiMAX introduces a new level of complexity that will challenge the WiMAX equipment market. Azimuth and AT4 wireless have partnered to address this complex progression in the technology.
The ACE 400WB combines state-of-the-art digital signal processing and complete RF control to deliver sophisticated channel modeling on a scale never before delivered, to enable repeatable and efficient testing of MIMO-based WiMAX devices. It can be used to test and debug algorithms, optimize the performance of WiMAX devices in MIMO and SISO environments, streamline QA processes and run competitive performance benchmark tests. The ACE 400WB also tests interoperability between MIMO and SISO implementations from multiple vendors and can be used to define industry-wide mobility performance test suites for future WiMAX products.
“In addition to presenting huge technological advantages, multi-antenna MIMO solutions such as IEEE 802.16e-2005 based Mobile WiMAX products create great test challenges,” said Graham Celine, senior director of marketing at Azimuth Systems. “Azimuth is committed to working with industry-leading organizations like AT4 wireless to deliver the benefits of accurate, repeatable channel emulation testing to help streamline the development of the next generation of WiMAX devices.”

12/2/2007 - Bluetooth PRD2.0 made simple with AT4 wireless
New Bluetooth certification program PRD2.0 has now been enforced, and AT4 wireless is ready to help its customers to adapt their testing and qualification strategies.
Following the implementation of EDR, whose certification has been offered to AT4 wireless' customers since 2004, with more than 30 devices tested, AT4 wireless has now fine-tuned its services based on the new Bluetooth certification program PRD2.0. AT4 wireless is ready to help their customers go smoothly through PRD 2.0 qualification.
This new qualification program delivered by the Bluetooth SIG modifies the current process such as the products can be now qualified directly by the manufacturers then audited by the Bluetooth SIG. It is still possible to ask for the assessment of a Bluetooth Qualification Expert (BQE) for this qualification, exempting the product from this random audit.
"AT4 wireless started working on the Bluetooth technology in year 2000 and have been since then sharing its expertise to its customers, through testing, qualification, maintenance of TTCN (Tree and Tabular Combined Notation) test specifications and development of test systems, covering all the Bluetooth versions. PRD2.0 will trigger a new approach for the testing and qualification where AT4 wireless' expertise and experience will still play an important role for its customers", said Mrs. Natividad Caro, Bluetooth Qualification Expert.
AT4 wireless is looking forward to meeting you at its booth 2E12 in the Hall 2, where we will be glad to introduce you to our services.

AT4 wireless has just finished the installation of 4 additional shielded rooms at its test laboratory of Málaga, Spain, making it a total of 15.
These chambers will be reserved for customers testing their devices based on the technologies GSM, GPRS, EDGE, WCDMA, Bluetooth, WiMAX, WiFi, RFID, and are complementing the other testing rooms available (EMC chambers, environmental lab, electrical safety lab...). This extra capacity will offer independency, confidentiality and reliability on the obtained results to AT4 Wireless' customers. In parallel, AT4 Wireless has grown its manpower to 60 experienced engineers, coming from recognized leaders from the mobile industry.
"The extension of our testing capacities, in terms of human resources and equipment, will help us to address faster our customers' requests and allow s them more flexibility for their projects. Overall, it will allow us to address more complex projects, with multiple technologies involved - the era of convergence started - while improving the quality of our services. This expansion is a good sign for our strategy of offering to our customers a one stop shop services for 2G/3G, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, WiMAX, RFID testing and regulatory compliance", says David Hien, International Sales Manager at AT4 wireless.
AT4 wireless is looking forward to meeting you at its booth 2E12 in the Hall 2, where we will be glad to introduce you to our services.
1/2/2007 - Optimising project management: parallel testing with MiNT
Málaga, SPAIN (February, 2007) - Centro de Tecnología de las Comunicaciones, S.A. (AT4 Wireless), in Spain, goes beyond the development and provision of complete RF test solutions for GCF and PTCRB. AT4 is presenting the MINT Modular Systems in the 3GSM World Congress in Barcelona.
RF Testing is the most time-consuming process in the certification testing of a mobile communications device and Project Managers in Test Houses and Manufacturer's Laboratories are continuously having a bottleneck due to the RF measurements.
AT4 Wireless has developed a set of MINT Modular Systems capable of running test projects in parallel using smart architectures.
MINT Modular Systems are cost-saving MINT Test System configuration which are extremely useful for long test cases and parallel testing.
- The MINT Blocking and Spurious Tester performs long TX tests which are usually performed overnight or without operator.
- With the MINT Receiver Tester, investment is maximized because most of the project test time is related to RX Test Cases.
- The MINT Dual Receiver Tester optimises test time and investment, because it performs RX testing of two EUTs in parallel.
- The MINT TX/RX Parallel Tester is a smart test system that runs a test project in a third of the standard test time.
All these systems are validated reference test platforms for GCF and PTCRB.
Rafael García, Product Manager at CETECOM Spain commented "A bottleneck in certification project management is the RF, where test cases have to be repeated for all supported bands, not like in protocol, audio or SIM. For example, for a standard quad-band 2G project, 480 RF testing hours are required, and 70% of those test cases are receiver tests. AT4 Combines the best of test systems development and laboratory experience and has now provided a solution to optimise project execution: with the MINT Modular Systems we are now able to provide the most complete, advanced and flexible solutions to satisfy all sectors of the mobile communications industry".
