Australia: 900 MHz band proposed for LTE-based services

In December 2016, the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) published a public consultation about the reconfiguration of the 900 MHz band with the aim to increase the efficiency of its use by means of new generation technologies as LTE.


Cambodia: SEATEL gets a 2600 MHz license to launch 4G services

The Ministry of Posts and Telecommunications (MPTC) announced, on 22nd December 2016, that South East Asia Telecom Group (SEATEL) was the only company granted with some of the spectrum blocks subject to licensing under the 4G spectrum auction held on 16th December 2016.



Georgia: Mobitel gets a licence on the 2100 MHz band

On 23rd December 2016, the Georgian National Communications Commission (GNCC) held an auction for spectrum licences in the 2100 MHz band. The only participant and winner was Mobitel, which operates under the Beeline brand.



Iraq: Consultation on Broadband Fixed Wireless Access in the 2.4 and 5 GHz bands

On 18th December 2016, the Communications and Media Commission (CMC) published a consultation on proposed regulation for Broadband Fixed Wireless Access (BFWA) systems in the 2.4 and 5 GHz bands.


Kenya: Publication of updated SRD Guidelines

On 13th December 2016, the Communications Authority of Kenya published an updated version of their Short Range Devices (SRD) technical regulations where they set out the technical and operating parameters and spectrum use for short-range radiocommunication devices.

USA: Waiver of push notification requirements for white space devices and databases

On 23rd December 2016, the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) released an Order that introduces a waiver for the requirement that had been previously established to implement push notification capability on every white space device by that date.


Vietnam: New regulation on devices subject to mandatory Type Approval

On 26th December 2016, the Ministry of Information and Communications (MIC) released a new circular to update the list of telecommunication products and devices requiring Type Approval Certification.


Pakistan: List of equipment exempt from Type Approval / No Objection Certificate (NOC)

On 22nd December 2016, Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) published a list of the types of devices exempt from type approval/NOC.


Japan: Consultation on amendments to radio and telecommunication equipment technical regulations

On 28th December 2016, the Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications (MIC) published a consultation on proposed amendments to several legal instruments setting out technical regulations for radio and telecommunication equipment.


France: Consultation on the future use and allocation of 2.6 and 3.5 GHz band

On 6th January 2017, the Autorité de Régulation des Communications Électroniques et des Postes (ARCEP) launched a consultation on the future allocation and use of the 2.6 and 3.5 GHz bands.


Switzerland: Publication of the National Frequency Allocation Plan 2017

On 1st January 2017, the Bundesamt für Kommunikation (BAKOM) issued the National Frequency Allocation Plan 2017 which replaces the 2016 edition.


Australia: ACMA updates the Radiofrequency Spectrum Plan

2017 update to the Australian Spectrum Plan has been recently published by the Australian Communications and Media Authority (ACMA) in the Federal Register of Legislation. The new version came into force on 1st January 2017.


Bhutan: BICMA enacts their type approval regulations after resolving some outstanding implementation issues

After resolving the outstanding issues with international bank transfers, Bhutan InfoComm and Media Authority (BICMA) has finally published their type approval regulations that came into effect on 15th December 2016.


United Kingdom: Proposal to make statutory documents for the 2.3 and 3.4 GHz bands auction

The Office of Communications (OFCOM) issued on 19th December 2016 a public consultation document in which they inform about their plans to make additional statutory documents related to the upcoming licensing of spectrum in the 2.3 and 3.4 GHz band.


EAEU: Changes in the regulation of the forms of Declarations and Conformity Certificates

The decision amending the regulations on requirements for Declarations and Conformity Certificates, approved by the Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) on 15th November 2016, came finally into force on 22nd December 2016.


United Kingdom: Public consultation about changes to 3.6-3.8 GHz band spectrum trading regulations

On 20th December 2016, the Office of Communications (OFCOM) published a consultation on proposals to change the spectrum trading regulations with the aim of including the 3600-3800 MHz band in mobile trading.

Slovenia: AKOS to hold a tender in the 3.5 GHz band

On December 2016, Agencija za komunikacijska omrezja in storitve (AKOS) announced a public tender for the assignment of spectrum lots in the 3.5 GHz band for the provision of broadband fixed-wireless access in rural areas.



Adoption of Bluetooth 5.0

The adoption of the Bluetooth 5.0 was announced on 7th December 2016 by the Bluetooth Special Interest Group (Bluetooth SIG). This new version of the Bluetooth standard is focused on increasing functionality for the Internet of Things (IoT) and includes a significantly increased range, speed, and broadcast messaging capacity.

Hong-Kong: OFCA issues a Performance Specification and a Class Licence for Short Range Radars in the 79 GHz band

On 6th January 2017, the Office of the Communications Authority (OFCA) released a technical specification and a class license establishing the performance requirements and licensing terms for Short-Range Radar equipment operating in the 79 GHz band.
